After having lived in Austin for a good 5.5 years, I can honestly say that by far the most dangerous parking lot is the post office off of Far West Blvd.
It's important to approach this parking lot as cautiously as possible because, you'll observe, as the people back out of their spots, they DO NOT look from side to side. You can be riding your break in this parking lot and still, six inches ahead of you, someone will reverse out of their parking spot faster than you can say "#@*%#!"
I declare that this parking lot is even more dangerous than the parking lot of Chinatown's MT Mart. I'm not about to bring issues with Asian drivers. Heck, I'm an Asian driver. I'm sure that the danger behind the MT Mart's parking lot lies in it's lack of structure. The lack of any directing stops signs in that lot is very conducive to everyone thinking that they have the right of way - which can't happen. Either someone has to yield or someone dies. Asians are smart enough to know that the person going straight has the right of way, it's just that there's an intersection were the intersecting cars could both have been going straight for a very long time.
I have a feeling that this is just an underlying vent with Austin drivers. Everyone has a place to be, everyone is in a rush. This is sort of the antithesis of what we're taught to do in elementary school fire drills. It turns out, in real life, no one waits for others, nobody goes out in an orderly fashion to ensure no chaos. Austin deserves the traffic it creates.
